DARFORK — One person was pronounced dead Tuesday morning following a single-vehicle accident on Hwy. 476 just outside of Hazard.

Emergency responders were called to the scene in the Darfork community at approximately 8:45 Tuesday morning. Deputy Shawn White with the Perry County Sheriff's Office said the vehicle, a dark blue Chevrolet Lumina, was traveling west toward Hazard when the driver, identified as 58-year-old William Haddix of Hazard, apparently lost control and crashed into a guardrail, pinning him inside.

The incident happened just a few hours after a round of wintry weather hit the region. White said he believes road conditions likely played a role in the crash, but may not have been the sole cause.

"That's pretty much what I could see that may have been a contributing factor," White said. "Speed or anything like that we couldn't determine."

White said Haddix was pronounced dead at the scene by the Perry County Coroner's Office. No passengers were in the vehicle at the time of the crash, and no other vehicles were involved.
