WILLIAMSON - With all eyes on the skies and prayers going up for sunny weather, the city of Williamson and event promoters are hard at work preparing for the Third Annual “Rally in the Valley” that will kick off today at noon.
The tentative schedule for the weekend event that is expecting to draw a large crowd with numbers forecast to be in the thousands has been released, but is subject to change if inclement weather occurs.
The 2014 Rally in the Valley schedule reads as follows:
On Thursday, the rally opens at noon, with a welcoming ceremony scheduled on the center stage that will be located at Second Avenue and Logan Street. A large number of vendors with a wide array of products and services will be set up and ready to sell. At 6 p.m., free concerts will begin featuring “Bridgekid,” a local band, which will be followed by “5th Wheel” at 7 p.m., and “Victim Eyes” at 8.
On Friday, the Rally will open to the public at 9 a.m. During the daytime hours, riders are encouraged to take advantage of the beautiful, scenic rides the Tug Valley area has to offer. Children will definitely want to partake in a variety of free activities including rides, a snake exhibit, a water-walk, inflatables and much more. The free concerts will begin at 4 p.m. as “Glen Simpson” takes the stage, and is scheduled to be followed by “Mountain Station” at 5 p.m., “Clonetherapy” at 7 p.m. and “Mad Dog Mean” at 8 p.m.
If you are a health enthusiast who enjoys a good run and a challenge, or a person who wants to walk at their own pace, everyone is welcome to join the Run for the Rally 5K, set to start at 7 p.m. Registration for this event will take place inside the Historic Coal House, located on Second Avenue next to the Mingo County Courthouse.
On Saturday, the “Main Event” day of the rally, musical entertainment will begin at noon with the band ‘Wanted.” “Chad Hall” will command the stage at 1 p.m., “Joey’s Aces and the Deal” will take over at 4 p.m., “One in the Chamber” at 5 p.m., “Southern Wind” at 6 p.m. and “Problem Child” will wrap up the day’s events starting at 9 p.m.
The Rally in the Valley Bike show will be held at 2 p.m., with registration beginning at 10 a.m. After trophies for this event are presented to the winners, the Biker Games, a crowd favorite, will kick-off at at 3 p.m. A tattoo contest is scheduled at 4:45. followed by the popular ‘Miss Rally in the Valley” contest.
Sunday, the Rally will once again begin at 9 a.m., with free concerts between the hours of 3 and 7 p.m., featuring “Sheldon Vance,” “Mama’s Pumphouse” and “One in the Chamber.”
