BELO - A response to a complaint of a domestic disturbance in progress resulted in the arrest of a Williamson resident who allegedly caused a two-vehicle collision that involved him and his estranged partner.

According to the criminal complaint filed in Mingo County Magistrate Court by West Virginia State Police Trooper D.M. Williamson, he was dispatched to the Bank of Mingo location on U.S. Highway 119 at Belo, in reference to a domestic call. While in route to the scene, the trooper was advised by Mingo County 911 that the male involved in the disturbance had fled the scene, driving a Ford-F150

The trooper was then advised by Cpl. N. Mines with the Mingo County Sheriff’s Department that he had spotted the truck in question and performed a traffic stop, identifying the driver as James Venturino, 45.

Williamson continued to the Bank of Mingo, where he spoke with the victim, Carrie Sowards. The female told the officer that the defendant had engaged her in a verbal altercation at his Alley Branch residence and alleged that, when she left, Venturino followed her. He is then said to have pulled in front of her vehicle on the four-lane and slammed on his brakes, causing Sowards to hit his vehicle.

Once the vehicles collided, the defendant is accused of jumping out of his truck and breaking out the driver’s-side window of the victim’s car. Allegedly in fear for her safety, Sowards went to the Bank of Mingo parking lot, where Venturino allegedly gained entry to her vehicle and stole her purse, which was later recovered after it’s hiding place was reportedly revealed by the defendant.

Venturino was placed under arrest by the trooper and charged with one count each of domestic assault, destruction of property and petit larceny. He was arraigned before Mingo County Magistrate Dee Sidebottom and released from custody after posting $3,000 bond.
