MATEWAN – The Matewan Fire and Rescue Department recently hosted a “Flashback to the 80s,” block party in downtown Matewan.

Trophies and prizes were given out, including trophies for Best Dressed and the Best Dancer. The trophies and gifts were donated by local businesses throughout the surrounding area.

Vendors attended the event to sell drinks and baked goods to the public.

Entertainment provided by DJ Homer Mullins of No Limit Entertainment, kept the crowd dancing all evening.

The next block party, “Welcoming Back the Disco,” will be on September 5, from 7 to 10 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for Best Dressed and Best Dancer.

No Limit Entertainment will provide the entertainment for the disco event as well.

The block party is free to the public. Organizers Anita Collins and Paul Blankenship encourage everyone to attend.

Vendors can set up a table to sell baked goods and crafts for the cost of $15. For more information, contact Anita Collins or Paul Blankenship.
