Great White Way scheduled Saturday

WILLIAMSON – The annual Great White Way Christmas Extravaganza will be held Saturday, December 3, in downtown Williamson.

The Great White Way is an event organized by the Action in Mingo (AIM) group. Jada Hunter, President of AIM, discussed the upcoming event stating, “There is something planned for everyone!”

AIM would like to welcome vendors to the event. “Vendors are invited to set up across from The Courthouse for only $15, and they may call Jada Hunter at 304-235-0909 to register,” Hunter stated.

Activities for the Great White Way have been scheduled throughout the day. “Breakfast with Santa will begin at 8:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Christmas Music will begin at 10 a.m., and Linda VanMeter’s Gingerbread House Workshop at the First Baptist Church for children ages five to 13 will also begin at 10 a.m., followed by spelling bees for children and adults. All ages may begin signing up for the horse and buggy rides that will begin at noon. Christmas Carolers will also start singing at noon ending with Sarah McVaney and The Mingo Central Choir. Seating will be provided,” Hunter said.

Several events have been scheduled at the Cinderella Theater. Margaret Pinson’s Unique Doll Display at the Cinderella Theater will also begin at noon followed by a contest for anyone else with a unique doll. Other displays at the theater will include handmade Christmas ornaments from area students, handmade quilts, train sets, and The Bake-Off entries at 2:30 p.m.

Other Great White Way events include a children’s race, an Ugly Sweater Contest, and the annual parade. Hunter explained the events stating, “There will be a Reindeer Run for children at 3:00 p.m. chaired by Alexis Batausa and The Road Runners’ Club, An Ugly Christmas Sweater Contest at The Cinderella at 4:00 p.m., chaired by Maria Arnot.

The annual Christmas Parade begins at 5:00 p.m. followed by visits with Santa and Mrs. Clause, and treat bags will be provided by The ARH Area Medical Center and The Williamson Memorial Hospital. Everyone will receive free, hot chocolate, and samples of the baked goods. There will be lots of fun for everyone..
