WILLIAMSON – At a special meeting of the Williamson City Council held Wednesday morning, council unanimously approved the appointment of Meredith Anderson to the position of City Clerk.
The positon was left vacant after the sitting City Clerk, Larry Brown, announced that he had taken another job.
Anderson was one of 12 that had applied for the position of Williamson City Clerk.
“Having lived in Williamson all of my life, I am very excited about serving as the new City Clerk. I will work hard to do the best job I can and to serve the city well. I appreciate the city council for giving me this opportunity,” Anderson stated.
Williamson Mayor, Robert Carlton called the meeting to order stating, “Notice had been given last week for a special meeting on today’s date to consider the one and only issue of filling the position of city clerk. The city council members have had an opportunity to review the applications. Do we have a nomination by any of the council members?”
Councilman York Smith made a motion to appoint Meredith Anderson to the city clerk position.
During discussion on the city clerk position Councilwoman Judy Hamrick stated, “I think we need to discuss a probationary period. We have done it for everybody for 60 days and a slight reduction in salary until that is achieved. She has a lot of experience so I am not going to insult her by going low but I think we can take her down to $33,000 and after the completion of the probationary period go up to the regular salary.”
Carlton responded stating, “We have a motion as amended to offer the position of City Clerk for Meredith Anderson on 60 days probationary status of $33,000 with consideration of going to $36,000 after the probationary period.”
The motion was seconded and approved. Carlton requested that the acting clerk notify Anderson to inform her on the decision.
The next regular meeting of the Williamson City Council will be held on Thursday, December 8 at 6:00 p.m. in Council Chambers at Williamson City Hall.
