12 car pile up closes Mtn. Parkway

JACKSON, Ky. – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists that all lanes of traffic in both directions are blocked on the Mountain Parkway in Powell County between mile point 22 in Powell County and mile point 44 in Wolfe County in due to a multi-vehicle crash involving commercial vehicles.

The estimated duration of the traffic blockage is unknown but the Kentucky State Police and multiple fire departments are working to clear the roadway.

Motorists are strongly encouraged to avoid the area if possible. The following detours have been established:

Eastbound detours:

KYTC suggests motorists traveling east on the Mountain Parkway in non-commercial vehicles detour via exit 33 to KY 15 south to the Mountain Parkway exit 40. Motorists in commercial vehicles traveling east on the Mountain Parkway should detour via exit 33 to KY 11 south to the Mountain Parkway exit 40.

Westbound detours:

For motorists in non-commercial vehicles traveling west on Mountain Parkway, the recommended detour is exit 40 to KY 15 north to Mountain Parkway exit 33. For commercial vehicles traveling west on Mountain Parkway the suggested detour is exit 40 to KY 15 north to KY 715 south to KY 11 north to Mountain Parkway exit 33.
