KERMIT – Recently, Kermit PK-8 Principal, Deborah Starr, attended the National Association of Elementary School Principals Conference at National Harbor, MD with other executive officers of the West Virginia Principals Association.

During the conference, the members had the opportunity to attend workshops and seminars along with administrators across the county.

The conference featured national renowned speakers. Todd Whitaker was one speaker at the conference. Whitaker spoke on the topic, “The First Year, How to Help Beginning Teachers Move from Surviving to Thriving.”

Daniel Goleman was also a featured speaker at the conference. Goleman spoke on the topic, “Leadership: The Power of Emotional Intelligence.”

The group also attended daily workshops. The workshops enabled the Principals Association the opportunity to bring ideas to be shared with their respective school districts.

According to the National Association of Elementary School Principals website, “The National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP), founded in 1921, is a professional organization serving elementary and middle school principals and other education leaders throughout the United States, Canada, and overseas.”

The website explains the vision of NAESP stating, “The Association believes that the progress and well-being of the individual child must be at the forefront of all elementary and middle-school planning and operations. Further, NAESP supports elementary and middle-level principals as the primary catalyst for creating a lasting foundation for learning, driving school and student performance, and shaping the long-term impact of school improvement efforts.”
