WILLIAMSON – At a regular meeting of the Williamson Utility Board (WUB) held Thursday afternoon, Rick Roberts from E.L. Robinson Engineering then discussed a proposed Water and Sewer Upgrade Project for the city of Williamson. The topic was discussed in depth at a public meeting held prior to the WUB regular meeting. During the regular meeting, WUB members approved Roberts request to seek additional grants to help fund the projects.

Following roll call and an approval of minutes from the last meeting held on July 14, members voted to approve bills for payment as money becomes available in the total amount of $17,675.88.

Under new business, WUB members voted to approve a motion to discontinue credits for filling swimming pools. WUB Chairman and Mayor Robert Carlton stated, “We received a summary from the office manager with her position on it. Personally, I do not think there should be any discount for filling pools.” Members agreed and voted to discontinue credits for filling swimming pools.

Jason Allen, Project Manager for Veolia Water, also provided an update at the meeting. “There are a couple things we have already discussed in the other meaning earlier and Mr. Roberts with E.L. Robinson also discussed them as well with some of the upgrades and issues we have going on at the waste water treatment plant along with the old water treatment plant… The other water treatment plant that was in service years and years ago is actually continuing to be used. It is your main water tank storage in the area. It is used to pump out of at various areas in the system. There are actually leaks now… Again, just a reminder of these ongoing issues…”

Allen continued stating, “Another of my big concerns is at the waste water treatment plant… We are at half capacity and are actually operating with one treatment. In the event that we get a high flow that number increases and that jeopardizes the treatment process at the waste water plant…”

The discussion continued concerning possible repairs and the most important issues that need to be addressed.

The Williamson Utility Board meets every second and fourth Thursday of the month in Council Chambers at Williamson City Hall at 3:30 p.m.
