WILLIAMSON – Trooper J.D. Matheny of the Williamson detachment of the West Virginia State Police (WVSP) is the Officer of the Month for July for the Williamson Daily News.

Matheny has been with the WVSP for almost seven years. He was assigned to Mingo County in April of 2010.

Matheny, a native of Athens County, Ohio, is well-liked by his fellow troopers. He is said to be a “family man.”

Trooper Matheny is a part of the Crime Scene Investigative team for the southern counties of West Virginia. He is sent to major crimes such as murder and other high profile cases. Matheny is always available when called for an important CSI case in six counties.

He is the key investigator for a recent and difficult heroin overdose that led to murder charges.

Sgt. M.S. Lively, the detachment commander for Williamson said, “Trooper Matheny is a good investigator and does a great job for the State Police.”
