Mingo BOE personnel decisions

CINDERELLA – A special meeting of the Mingo County Board of Education was held Thursday to approve personnel and other items in preparation for the 2016- 2017 school year.

This was the first meeting for new Superintendent of Schools Don Spence.

Under service personnel, several were approved for new employment into existing positions. Six were approved as substitutes for Mingo County Schools including: Brittany Elkins, Susan Hunter, Chelisa Lester, Brenda Roberson, Jodi Sesco, and Denise Williamson. Kelly Cline- Johnson was approved as a Social Studies Teacher at Gilbert Middle School. Betty Moseley was approved for Pre-K at Williamson PK-8. Allie Paxton as approved as a first grade teacher at Williamson PK-8. Joann Shoup was approved to teach Science at Burch PK-8.

Two were approved to transfer from classroom teachers to Title One. Melissa Hackney at Matewan PK-8 and Susan Moore at Lenore PK-8 were approved for Title One positions.

Two were approved to transfer into existing positions. Susan Jude will transfer to a position for Hearing Impaired and Special Education for Home-bound students. Brandon Wolford will transfer to a fifth grade teacher at Lenore PK-8.

Two were approved for reassignment as classroom teachers pursuant to WV Code 18A-4-7a (u). Bethany Hatfield was approved to teach first grade at Matewan PK-8. Tammy Smith was approved to teach third grade at Lenore Pk-8.

Brenda Roberson was approved to retire from a Social Studies position at Kermit PK-8.

The resignations of eight teachers from schools throughout the county were approved. The resignations include: James Chafin, Christa Hanshaw, Sara Kelley, Kimberly Martin, Jennifer Myers, Jack Stewart, Kristi Taylor and Candace Vance.

Two were assigned additional duties and re-titled. Dr. Richard Duncan will now be the Director of Human Resources and Information Systems. Paula Kay Maynard will now be the Director of Child Nutrition and Wellness.

Kristi Parsley-Adams was approved for a leave of absence due to active duty military training from her position as counselor at the Mingo County Extended Learning Center.

Several extracurricular assignments were approved for the upcoming school year. The following were approved for professional extracurricular assignments: Joseph Childers, Dian Corn, Ladonna Davis, Stan Elkins, Terry Grace, Rita Hardin, Kim Hensley, Debra Mitchell, Henry Moore, Johnny Murphy, Darrell Taylor, Samantha Wilson and Rodney Goff.

Resignations were approved for two people from extracurricular assignments. The resignations include the following: Jack Stewart and Candace Vance.

Two service personnel were approved for new employment. Michelle Copley and Tina Evans were approved for service personnel positions.

Stephanie Maynard was approved to transfer to a custodian position at Burch PK-8.

The resignation of Jacqueline Hatfield as Secretary at Mingo Central High school was approved. The retirement of Melissa Endicott as Secretary for the Transportation Department at Mingo County Schools was also approved.

Two service personnel were approved for a leave of absence. Kevin Salmons and Debra Sheppard were both approved for a leave of absence until late August.

Two were approved for temporary part-time positions. Andrea Clark was approved as EGG instructor at the Mingo County Extended Learning Center as well as Phlebotomy instructor at the Learning Center. Alichia Marsico was approved as business instructor at the Mingo County Extended Learning Center.
