Block Party scheduled for Aug. 13

WILLIAMSON – Healthy in the Hills will be hosting a community block party in Williamson on August 13.

The block party will be held on Second Avenue and Vinson Street.

The block party will kick off at 6 p.m. and will continue until 9 p.m. Music, a healthy cook off, vendors, water and children activities are planned for the event as well as performances by previous winners of Coalfields Got Talent.

Healthy in the Hills hosts a variety of community programs and events in the Williamson area as well as the surrounding communities. A current list of ongoing programs include: The Lunch Walk Program, Ramella Park Garden of Eatin’, Tuesday Night Track, monthly 5k runs/walks, chronic disease management, My Mobile Market, Hatfield and McCoy A Healthy Feud, the Williamson Farmers Market and other community engagement events such as Coalfields Got Talent.

The website states that Healthy in the Hills is a “coalition of volunteers, businesses, organizations, schools and churches from the coalfields of Southern W.Va. and Eastern Ky.” Healthy in the Hills boasts a growing list of community partners. Currently, 24 local organizations have partnered to support the Healthy in the Hills initiative.

The goal of Healthy in the Hills is to promote a healthy lifestyle throughout the coalfields through active living, healthy eating, and community engagement opportunities. According to the website, “Healthy in the Hills offers several events and programs that are designed to help us achieve our goal of a healthy Williamson. “
