WILLIAMSON – The Williamson Utility Board recently approved pay raises for personnel that work in the Williamson Water Office.

Minutes from the last meeting of the Williamson Utility Board held on Thursday, June 9 show that pay raises were approved by board members for three personnel working in the Williamson Water Office.

According to the minutes, at the meeting, Williamson Mayor Robert Carlton requested a motion to move to Executive Session to discuss personnel. The motion was made and seconded by the board members and the meeting went into executive session for approximately 40 minutes to discuss personnel matters.

When the meeting reconvened, Carlton requested a motion to move on to new business. A motion was made and the meeting proceeded.

During the portion of the agenda allotted for Board Member Remarks, member Lacy Muncy made a motion concerning the personnel pay increases. The minutes state, “Board member Lacy Muncy made a motion to give the personnel a raise as discussed in executive session in the amount of $487.61 bi – weekly. The motion was seconded by Gay Dotson and was open for discussion. During the discussion, Carlton expressed opposition to the raise stating there were unpaid bills and money was being sequestered by the PSC to pay the Veolia arrearages and current ongoing Veolia bills. Dotson said that $487 bi- weekly would not break the board. “

The minutes explained that a citizen in attendance at the meeting also spoke in disapproval of the pay raises. “Norma White, a citizen of Williamson, stated that it was unfair to give employees a raise with the utility bill was raised for the customers. Board member Larry Rosen replied stating that her bill had gone down and not increased,” the minutes stated.

The meeting continued with Carlton explaining the raises based on a summary document he had received. The minutes state, “The Chairman revealed the motion referenced a summary document he received and the amount of the raises was 12 percent for Lisa Phillips, 10 percent for Elizabeth Wells and $6,000 for the Office Manager, Lil Felix. The Chairman asked for a roll count on the vote for the raises.”

According to the minutes of the June 9th meeting, Chairman Carlton voted no, Board member Butch Beckett voted yes, Board member Larry Rosen abstained from voting and Board member Gay Dotson voted yes and the motion to approve the pay raises for personnel at the water office passed.

The next meeting of the Williamson Utility Board will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Aug. 11 in Council Chambers at Williamson City Hall.
