WILLIAMSON – On Saturday, July 16, The Mingo County Commission and the Laurel Lake Foundation are sponsoring free admission to the recently reopened Laurel Lake pool.

The pool facility officially opened on Tuesday, July 12 and will be open seven days a week from the hours of 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. The pool will be open seven days a week until the new schools year begins. After Aug. 15th, the commission will revise the days and times of operation but the pool will remain open until after Labor Day weekend.

Saturday has been designated as a free swim day. The regular admission fee is $2 per child for children ranging in ages four through 12. For swimmers that are 13 and over, the cost will be $3 per swimmer.

The pool is available to rent for private pool parties. Rentals are available daily from the hours of 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. for the cost of $100. For more information on reserving the pool contact Tina Abbott at 304-235-0380.

Summer plans for the facility include establishing vending machines at the location to provide swimmers with soda, water, and small snacks such as bags of chips. Currently, the commission is looking into contacting vendors to stock the location.

Future plans for Laurel Lake involve using a portion of the property to establish a 4-H camp in Mingo County. In June, Mingo County Commission entered into a temporary agreement with the state of W.Va. and Cotiga Development to sublease facilities in the Laurel Lake area to allow for the continuation of a 4-H camp in Mingo County. The commission expects a permanent agreement concerning the Laurel Lake facilities in the fall of 2016. “This is a temporary agreement pending a permanent agreement sometime in the fall. It is going to take a little time to work out the details…. They have agreed to let us sublease this right now,” Commissioner Diann Hannah explained at a meeting of the Mingo County Commission held on June 6.
