MATEWAN, W.Va. – If you are from Matewan, Delbarton or Williamson and you think about devotion and dedication to law enforcement, one of the first names that probably comes to mind is David Stratton.

Stratton is the Williamson Daily News Officer of the Month for June.

With almost 40 years in law enforcement under his belt, Chief Stratton is a familiar face in Mingo County.

He started his career as a patrolman with the city of Matewan in 1977, he held that position until 1980 when he became the Chief of Police.

Although Stratton retired from Matewan for a year and a half , at which time he worked in home confinment for the Mingo County Sheriff’s Department, his ties to the Town of Matewan were never broken.

In addition to serving as Chief of Police in Matewan, Chief Stratton still works part time as a process server for the Mingo County Sheriff’s Department.
