WILLIAMSON – The Williamson Board of Parks and Recreation (WBPR) recently announced the 1st Independence Day Bash at the newly renovated West Williamson Sports Complex.
The event will be held on Saturday, July 2 from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. The event will be sponsored by several local businesses and will be available to all attending, free of charge.
The air-conditioned Kiwanis Club Williamson Community Center and its’ outdoor covered picnic area will serve as hub for all activities, which include the following: Corn Hole tournament, 4 square games, Volleyball games, softball/wiffle ball , tennis, basketball, pickle ball, water balloon games, and others. Highlighting the bash will be free hotdogs featuring Chris Ooten’s world famous hotdog chili. Drinks will also be provided. A special water activity is slated to be sponsored by the Williamson Fire Department so youth and the young minded are encouraged to wear wet appropriate attire.
The WBPRenvisions sustainable, innovative, and inviting recreation choices serving the community and visitors through linked, complementary, and accessible activities.
The WBPR volunteer members stand unified in their vision to spend our limited resources responsibly, focus on restoring and maintaining our precious facilities to excellent condition, serve our community with fun activities that promote physical health and well-being, seek partnerships of service that involve other community clubs and groups, actively seek grants that have potential to allow us to restore current facilities and expand facilities that we can all use and enjoy,and remain “dedicated to the Youth of Williamson”.
The WBPR recent focus has been to restore the West Williamson Sports Complex. This renovation includes removal of heavy growth in all fences surrounding various facilities, surface renewal of tennis court, basketball court “Cage”, rear multipurpose surface, construction of permanent structure housing concession stand, bathroom facilities, and covered picnic area, softball field restoration including construction of new dugouts and all-new nighttime field lighting.
