CINDERELLA – Members of the Mingo County Board of Education (BOE) approved a number of personnel actions at a regular meeting held June 7 at 5 p.m.
Several professional personnel were approved for new employment into existing positions. April Bowen was approved as Instructional Coach at Williamson PK-8. Christopher Harris was approved for a Spanish Teacher position at Tug Valley High School. Amanda Lovern was approved for a Health and PE position at Williamson PK-8. Julia Collins, Ashley Ferguson, Kristy Noe, and Ora Anna Williams- Haga were approved for employment as substitute teachers for Mingo County Schools.
Two professional personnel were approved to transfer into existing positions. Rhonda Newsome was approved to transfer from a third grade teaching position to a second grade teaching position at Lenore PK-8. Brenda Vickers was approved to transfer from a fourth grade teaching position at Matewan PK-8 to a Title 1 Interventionist position at Mingo Central High School (MCHS).
The BOE also approved the resignation of Brittany Sebok from a substitute teaching position at Mingo County Schools, and a leave of absence request for Mary Rayburn from an art teaching position at Matewan PK-8 from May 4 2016, until June 6 2016.
The retirement of Judith McCoy from Administrative Assistant at Mingo County Schools effective June 30, 2016 was approved. The BOE also voted in approval of abolishing the Administrative Assistant position effective July 1, 2016.
Several new professional extracurricular assignments were approved for the 2016-2017 school year. Christopher Blackburn was approved as baseball coach for Kermit PK-8. Jimmy Bragg Jr. was approved as football coach at Gilbert Middle. Jimmy Bragg Sr. was approved as baseball coach at Gilbert Middle. Jimmy Bragg Sr. was also approved as assistant football coach at Gilbert Middle. Charles Chapman was approved as assistant softball coach at Lenore Pk-8. Lorie Chafin was approved as volleyball coach at Burch PK-8. Wendy Cisco was approved as cheer coach at MCHS. Eric Davis was approved for boys basketball coach at Lenore Pk-8. Jack Davis was approved as football coach at Burch PK-8. Clyde Farley was approved for assistant girls basketball coach and assistant volleyball coach at Kermit PK-8. Brittany Fitzpatrick was approved as cheer coach at Lenore PK-8. Rodney Goff was approved as assistant boys basketball coach at Lenore Pk-8. Terry Harrison was approved as assistant football coach at MCHS. Kevin Hatfield was approved as boys basketball coach at MCHS. Robert Hodge was approved as assistant boysbasketball coach and assistant football coach at Tug Valley High School (TVHS). Larry Johnson was approved as baseball coach and boys basketball coach at Williamson PK-8. Jared Lester was approved as baseball coach and boys soccer coach at MCHS. Johnny Messer, Jr. was approved as cheer coach at Kermit PK-8. Gaylena McCoy was approved as assistant cheer coach at TVHS. Robert Ooten was approved as assistant football coach at TVHS. Bradley Rawls was approved as soccer coach at Gilbert Middle. Timothy Sheppard was approved as assistant girls basketball coach at Lenore PK-8. Michele Vance was approved as girls soccer coach at MCHS. Jeremy Wellman was approved as assistant softball coach at TVHS.
Three resignations from professional extracurricular assignments were also approved. Pamela Chapman was approved to resign from SAT chair at Lenore PK-8. Patricia Opauski was approved to resign as Yearbook Sponsor at MCHS. Diana Wellman was approved to resign as SAT Chair at Burch Elementary.
The BOE also approved several actions regarding service personnel. Two service personnel were approved to transfer into existing positions. Breana Lawson was approved to transfer from a Custodian/Watchman position at Williamson PK-8 to a Custodian/Watchman at MCHS. Michael Dempsey was approved to transfer from a Custodian III position at Lenore PK-8 to a Custodian III position at Williamson PK-8. Both transfers will be effective on July 1, 2016.
The resignation of David Abbott was approved from a substitute bus operator for Mingo County Schools. The retirement of Vicky Estepp from Custodian III at Matewan PK-8 was approved. The BOE also approved Bonnie Moore’s request for a leave of absence as Secretary II at MCHS from July 1 until August 2.
The BOE also voted to rescind a decision to decline to renew the probationary contract of Breana Lawson and offer a second probationary contract.
