WILLIAMSON – The American Cancer Society (ACS) Bark for Life will be held at the Williamson Softball Field in West Williamson on Saturday, April 30.
The event will begin at 9:30 and will continue until 1 p.m. The Bark for Life is a non- competitive dog walk to raise money for the fight against cancer.
This is the first year the ACS Bark for Life has been presented in the Tug Valley area.
Dogs and owners are invited to walk the bases together as a way to show support for those whose lives have been impacted by cancer and also promoting cancer research awareness.
Those interested in participating in the event can register online at www.relayforlife.org/barktugvalleywv.
The owner registration fee for one dog is $15 with $5 for every additional dog added to participate in the event.
On the day of the event, registration begins at 9 a.m. The opening ceremony will begin at 9:30 a.m. At 9:45 a.m. there will be a Survivor/Caregiver lap. Dogs are often “caregivers” for their owners; providing love and companionship to those going through cancer.
Other activities begin at 10 a.m. These activities include the Best Costume Contest, the Best Trick Contest, and the Dog/Owner Look A Like contest. There will also be a contest held for Best in Show. For the Best in Show contest, the dogs will be divided by size.
For an additional $5, a photo may be submitted of your dog which will be judged for either the funniest dog or the cutest dog.
Awards will be given at 11:30. The dog that raised the most money for Bark For Life will be crowned Top Dog 2017 at the event.
The canine etiquette for the event includes: dogs must be on a leash with a maximum of six feet, dogs must be up to date on vaccinations, owners should carry a canine trash bag, respect other dog’s space, and are requested to not bring any dogs that are in heat to the event.
Water will be provided for the dogs. Owners are asked to bring a water bowl for their dog to the event. Concessions for owners will be offered during the event. Treat bags will also be provided for each registered dog.
