WILLIAMSON – The Team at the Williamson Health and Wellness Center is busy preparing for upcoming Healthy in the Hills events. Anyone is welcome to participate in these events!
On April 14th and 28th Jim and Elaine Buchanan from “Nature’s Best Cooking School” will be leading free Healthy Cooking Classes. The classes will take place at the Williamson Community Center and Pool House (98 Parkway Dr. Williamson) at 5 pm. The first class will be a cooking class for beginners, followed the intermediate class on the 28th.
On April 21st, Healthy in the Hills will be Walking for Diabetes. Two FREE group walks will take place that day. The first will be at Matewan Middle school at 12pm, and the second will be at 6 pm Garden Workshop May 14th.
The Williamson Health and Wellness Center and Park and Rec board are partnering to launch an intramural beach volleyball. The league will start in May, and registration is open to anyone 18 years or older. Sign up today by calling Ian Fields at 304-235-3400. The cost will be $5 a person and teams of 6-10 people are encouraged to register. Trophies and prizes will be awarded—and all proceeds will go to the Williamson Park Board.
On May 7th the Williamson Farmers Market will be open for the season. Stop by for some fresh early season, eggs, plants, baked goods and more. The market will be open from 8am-4pm and is located on the corner of 2nd Ave and Vinson Street.
Also taking place in downtown Williamson on May 7th will be the ARH Relay for Life 5K Run/Walk. The race will start at 9am and all proceeds will benefit Relay for Life. Participants can register online or at the Coal House.
On May 14th there will be a free on-site farm workshop on the new Refresh Appalachia, post mine agriculture site. The workshop will take place from 1-4pm at 1570 Holly Ridge in Holden WV. The workshop will be led by Crew Chief James Russel and will feature topics including composting, container gardener and straw bale gardening.
Register now for the 2nd annual Coalfields Got Talent show! The event will be broken down into two days this year, taking place on May 20th and 21st. For more information, or to register check out http://coalfieldsgottalent.com/. Kids and adults of all ages are welcome to join.
