PHELPS, Ky. – The Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 9 are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred early Monday morning in the Phelps area of Pike County, Ky.
A press release was issued by the KSP Post 9 that states, “In the early morning hours on Monday, April 11, KSP Post 9 received a 911 call from Pamela Smith.”
The press release indicates that Smith advised the 911 dispatcher that she had shot her estranged husband.
According to the press release, “Preliminary investigation indicates Terry Briggs arrived at Smith’s residence, made entry inside the home and made threats to Smith. Smith, armed with a handgun, shot Briggs causing fatal injuries. A Domestic Violence Order was active at the time of the shooting. Terry Briggs, 37 of Phelps, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Pike County Coroner, Ernie Casebolt.
The case is being investigated by KSP Post 9 Detective Christopher Phillips and no charges have been filed at this time. However, the press release states that the case will be presented to a grand jury for consideration.
