RED JACKET – Mingo Central High School will celebrate ‘College Decision Day,’ an event honoring students who plan to pursue some form of education or training beyond high school, on April 12 from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. College Decision Day is organized by the College Foundation of West Virginia (CFWV), an initiative coordinated by the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission to help students go to college and succeed.

Dr. Paul Hill, Chancellor of West Virginia’s four-year public colleges and universities; Dr. E. Gordon Gee, President of West Virginia University; Dr. Jerome Gilbert, President of Marshall University and Dr. Robert Gunter, President of Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College, will participate in Mingo Central’s ceremony.

“College Decision Day is inspired by sports events, such as the NCAA national signing day and the NFL draft,” Dr. Hill said. “We want to make sure we showcase the academic excellence of our students with the same enthusiasm and pride as we devote to sports.”

Any student who has committed to enter a certificate program, a career and technical program, a two-year degree program, a four-year degree program or military service will be honored during the event. Students’ families and friends and members of the community are invited and encouraged to attend.

First Lady Michelle Obama has declared April 26 to be “National College Signing Day,” as part of her “Reach Higher” initiative. Reach Higher focuses on inspiring students to pursue higher education and advanced training. To coordinate with the national campaign, West Virginia will host College Decision Day activities across the state throughout the months of April and May. High schools have until April 15 to register to participate. For more information, visit www.cfwvconnect.com/college-decision-day.
