PIKEVILLE, Ky. – Pikeville law enforcement are investigating what appears to be a murder suicide that occurred around 10 p.m. Thursday night.

The Pike County Coroner states that the two men have been identified as 36 year old Nicholas D. Hopkins and 22 year old Travis Thompson.

On Friday, officials confirmed that two men were discovered dead at an apartment on 143 Main St. in Pikeville. At a press conference, officials stated that the apartment where the incident occurred is located above the Appalachian Wireless building. Both men died as a result of apparent gunshot wounds.

In another press conference held later on Friday, officials explained that both men were students of the University of Pikeville. During the conference, it was revealed that the men were discovered after law enforcement received a call requesting that someone check on the apartment. It was then that the two men’s bodies were discovered.

At this time, law enforcement has no details as to why the shooting incident occured.

No further information is being released at this time involving this incident. The case is still under investigation by Pike County law enforcement agencies.
