Deputies from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office reportedly discovered 64 large mason jars full on a substance believed to be marijuana Jan. 24. Deputies were initially called to the scene on reports of a man asleep at the wheel of his car at the Speedway in Wilkinson, W.Va.


WILKINSON, W.Va — A press release from Logan County Sheriff Sonya M. Dingess Porter reports a large amount of marijuana was recovered from a car after its driver was found asleep at the wheel.

On Sunday, Jan. 24th, 2016 at around 1:40 a.m., Deputy N. Tucker was dispatched by the Logan 911 Center to the Speedway in Wilkinson for a welfare check.

Logan County 911 reportedly advised Tucker a driver at the gas station had been passed-out behind the wheel of a car for about 35 minutes.

Tucker along with Deputy R. Johnson arrived on scene and observed a male who was reportedly still asleep at the wheel.

The car was reportedly running and in gear with the driver’s foot resting on the brake.

The deputies found the driver to be a Jordan Chase Canada, age 24, of Delbarton, W. Va.

Deputies reportedly observed a used syringe sitting on the driver’s lap along with the bottom of a soda can believed to be used as drug paraphernalia.

While the deputies were attempting to wake this individual, Tucker and Johnson reportedly also saw a large mason jar full of green vegetation believed to be marijuana in the floorboard of the vehicle.

After the deputies were able to get the driver’s attention, he reportedly stepped out of the car.

When Canada opened the door, deputies report they could smell the strong odor of marijuana coming from the car.

Canada allegedly exhibited slurred speech, red and watery eyes and was unsteady on his feet.

Deputies report Canada refused to take the standardized field sobriety tests, and he was placed under arrest for driving under the influence (DUI).

During a search of Canada, Deputies reportedly found approximately one gram of a white powdery substance believed to be heroin in a cigarette pack.

While searching the vehicle, Tucker and Johnson reportedly found 64 large clear mason jars full of a green vegetation believed to be marijuana.

Canada was charged with a misdemeanor count of DUI and felony count of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.

If he is found guilty on all counts, Canada could be forced to spend between 1.5 and 5.5 years in state correctional facility and pay up to $15,500 in fines.

Canada’s bond was set to $15,000.00.
