WILLIAMSON – A small trailer home was destroyed by fire on Smith Street, just off of Vinson Street, in Williamson on Sunday evening.
The 911 call came in shortly after 5:00 p.m., according to Lt. Matt Hatfield of the Williamson Fire Department (WFD).
The trailer was the home of Linwood Starling, who is a well-known and longtime resident of Williamson. Starling was home at the time of the blaze, but escaped injury.
The WFD was dispatched via Mingo County 911 at 5:40 p.m. to Smith Street behind the Williamson Terrace apartments about a structure fire, according to Lt. Hatfield.
Upon arriving at the scene firefighters found a small mobile home fully engulfed in flames.
The WFD responded with three engines and 11 firefighters arriving on scene within minutes of receiving the cal.
“The fire was brought under control within minutes,” according to Hatfield. The residence was listed as a total loss, Hatfield said. Two adjacent wood-framed structures were saved by the WFD.
The cause of the fire is still undetermined and is still under investigation by the WFD, Hatfield stated.
The Mingo County Office Emergency Services along with the WFD and Red Cross have assisted Mr. Starling with clothing and shelter. If anyone would like to make further donations of clothing or monetary they can call the WFD at 304-235-5273 or the EMS office at 235-8551.
