William Plaster/WDN Photo Four fire departments were dispatched to a prep plant fire at Sidney Coal located at Canada, Ky. on Friday morning around 10 a.m. Smoke can be seen billowing from the prep plant structure in this structure. The fire was on the fifth floor of the plant. The Big Creek, Belfry, Turkey Creek and Hatfield, Ky. Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the 911 call. The Coal Run department was on standby. The fire was brought under control around 10:52 a.m. No serious injuries were reported, however two employees were reportedly taken to a local hospital, according to a spokesman for the BVFD. No information was available as to the amount of damage to the plant. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by state and federal mine inspectors.
