A resident of Red Jacket, W.Va. was arrested in Logan County Nov. 8 for allegedly perpetrating an armed robbery at the Marathon Station on State Rt. 44 on Horsepen Mountain.

Trooper H.A. Rose, with the West Virginia State Police and Deputy Kevin Ball, with the Mingo County Sheriff’s Department, reportedly responded to the call at the service station which sits near the border of Logan and Mingo counties.

Rose and Ball report they were able to speak with attendant at the service station who advised them an unfamiliar white male had entered the store demanding money from the register.

The alleged robber, Benjamin Levi Prater, 34, of Red Jacket, reportedly kept his hand in his sweatshirt making it appear as if he had a weapon.

The victim reportedly stated to authorities they believed Prater was carrying a pistol.

The criminal complaint filed by Rose says, “…the accused stated to [the victim] if they did not provide him with money the accused would ‘blow [their] head off.’”

Upon reviewing the security footage from the service station, Rose and Ball report they were able to identify Prater as the man shown in the video robbing the store.

Ball and Rose report they were able to apprehend Prater after a short search.

Prater is charged with a felony count of armed robbery.

If he found guilty, Prater could be forced to spend no less than 10 years in a state correctional facility.

Bond was set to $100,000 in Logan County Magistrate Court.
