Matewan Homecoming scheduled

MATEWAN – Historic Matewan’s annual homecoming celebration will be held Saturday, Sept. 12.

Vendors may begin setting up at 7 a.m. Spaces are free of charge and available on a first come, first serve basis. Vendors must be set up by 10:00 a.m.

The first event to take place is a car show, which will be held from the hours of 8 to 11 a.m. There is a $15 entry fee to enter a vehicle in the car show.

Trophies for car show winners will be distributed at 3 p.m. Coal plaques will be given to the first 50 entries. Trophies will be awarded for top 40. There are also 11 specialty trophies to be awarded.

Vendor and car show entry forms may be printed from the Historic Matewan Facebook page or picked up at Matewan City Hall.

There will be live music beginning at 9 a.m. as well as door prizes and games throughout the day.

A performance from the Matewan Drama Group will take place at noon.

Hatfield and McCoy airboat rides are available all day.

Homemade apple butter will be available and Wingo’s Grill will be serving barbecue all day.

Area attractions will be open such as the Matewan Depot replica as well as the West Virginia Mine Wars Museum.
