Recent BOE personnel actions

CINDERELLA – At a special meeting of the Mingo County Board of Education (BOE) held Wednesday morning, board members approved a number of personnel actions.

The BOE approved a motion to rescind several previous personnel actions. A motion to approve the employment of Ricky Brock Mounts and Sauber Emil Cantees for substitute teacher positions was rescinded due to the fact that Mounts and Cantees did not receive the required permit needed for the position. A motion to rescind the employment of Jessica Brown for a Health Occupations Teacher at Mingo Central High school was also approved due to the fact that Brown did not accept employment. The former motion approving the termination of the contract of Brenda Sammons as a Science teacher at Tug Valley High School was also rescinded.

Two retirements were approved by BOE members at Wednesday’s meeting. The retirement of Brenda Sammons who serves as a Science teacher at Tug Valley High was approved as well as the retirement of Patricia Opauski from a librarian position which served Burch PK-8, Gilbert Elementary and Gilbert Middle.

BOE members also approved the resignation of three individuals. Stephanie Bannister’s resignation from an English position at Williamson PK-8 was approved. Barry Cline’s resignation as a substitute teacher at Mingo County School’s was also approved. Finally, Charles Eddie Henry’s resignation from a Music teacher position at Williamson PK-8 was approved.

Two requests for a leave of absence were approved by BOE members at the meeting. Patricia Bartram’s request for a leave of absence from her position at Dingess Elementary School effective February 2; February 9-10, and February 16-17 2017 was approved by BOE members.

Two new professional extracurricular assignments were approved for the 2016- 2017 school year. Virginia Thomas was approved as Homebound Instructor for Mingo County Schools. Ronald Blankenship Jr., was approved as assistant boys basketball coach for Tug Valley High School.

The resignation of one service personnel was approved at Wednesday’s meeting. Brenda Abbott’s resignation as a substitute aide for Mingo County Schools effective March 6, 2017 was approved.

The requests for leaves of absence regarding two service personnel were approved. Cathy May’s leave of absence request for March 3 to March 6, 2017 was approved. Stephanie Maynard’s request for a leave of absence as a cook at Mingo Central High School effective April 5 through April 28, 2017 was approved.

Finally, the reassignment of Kevin Bryant as a substitute aide, substitute cook, substitute custodian and substitute general maintenance to substitute cook was approved. Bryant was reassigned as a multi- classified substitute to a single classification based on the preference of the employee.

The next regular meeting of the Mingo County Board of Education will be held April 18, 2017.
