The Works of Salvation

-Popular culture promotes the idea that there are many roads which lead to Heaven. Some believe that they can earn their way to this wonderful place. As long as one is “good enough” he or she will make it. If there is a merit based system, where do you draw the line? Would Paradise be reserved only for the best citizens of the nation? How many sins would you have to commit before you are doomed to eternal destruction? If people could work their way up the spiritual ladder, that would eliminate the need for the cross. With many misconceptions flooding the streets, it is important to find truth through God’s word.

The plan of salvation is found in Romans 10:9: “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” This chapter also contains some tough questions. Can anyone ascend into Heaven and bring Christ down from above, suffer the death of the crucifixion, descend into the deep and raise Jesus from the dead? These are the true works of salvation and no one on earth can complete them. Only Jesus could achieve such an accomplishment so we must fully depend on him. That is why scripture declares that he is the way, the truth, the life and only through him can we make it to Heaven. It is clear that it is not enough to be a good person. We cannot obtain the impossible task of salvation so we must put our faith in Christ.

If we desire to receive the gift of eternal life, we must receive it by faith: “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves : it is the gift of God.” (Ephesians 2:8) Therefore we must repent and abandon our old life of sin. Walking in a new life with Christ will allow us to reap the benefits of the cross. We are forgiven, saved, and changed by his grace. It will keep us, sustain us, empower us and make us a new creature. We have all fallen short but God has made a way so that we all can make it. It is up to you to receive this gift that has been extended personally. If you have been confused about life and doubt your future, why not take a look at the scripture in Romans? You can begin a new relationship with Christ and be certain about your eternity.
