In my family, we have to have some kind of bread to go with whatever we are having for supper. It was just expected because that’s the way my parents were raised and how I was raised. If there wasn’t bread on the supper table growing up then supper wasn’t ready. I still find myself doing the same thing that my Grandmothers and Mama did…standing around waiting on the bread to come out of the oven before serving up supper.

This is a recipe that is a combination of my Mama and myself, she made a very similar roll when I was a child and I have reinvented it in these quick rolls. They are similar to a biscuit but with a texture of a soft roll, butter them while they are good and hot and they are so good.

Quick Rolls:

2 C. buttermilk baking mix (like Bisquick)

1 tsp. garlic powder

1 large egg, beaten

1/2 C. milk

3/4 C. shredded sharp cheddar cheese

1 T. butter, melted for brushing the tops

In a bowl combine the baking mix and the garlic powder. Add the egg and milk and combine well. Stir in the cheese and then drop by spoonfuls onto a baking sheet sprayed with cooking spray. Bake in a 425 degree oven for 10-12 minutes. Brush the tops with the melted butter just before serving. Approx. 10 -12 rolls
