- College Application and Exploration Week

Stafff Report

MATEWAN – Matewan Pre-K8 School has signed on to participate in West Virginia’s statewide “College Application and Exploration Week” to be held October 19-23. During the week, the school will host activities to help students learn about postsecondary education programs, including certificate programs, workforce training and apprenticeship programs, two-year degree programs, four-year degree programs and military service.

During the week, the students will be participating in a week-long college scavenger hunt and a college artwork/collage contest; 8th grade students will read facts about WV colleges during morning announcements, and a guest speaker will talk to middle school students about attending in-state colleges. Additionally, all 8th grade students will attend a GEARUP Student Leadership Academy in Charleston, WV on Wednesday. The week will end on an energetic note as all students and faculty participate in “College Colors Day” on Friday, wearing their favorite college’s colors!

College Application and Exploration is organized by the College Foundation of West Virginia (CFWV), an initiative coordinated by the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission to help students go to college and succeed. Students and families can learn more about colleges and careers and submit college applications by visiting West Virginia’s free college-planning website, www.cfwv.com.
