About James Smith:

James Smith works in circulation and distribution for the Williamson Daily News. James is from Delbarton, West Virginia and graduated from Burch High School in 1991.

He is the proud father of two daughters. James has 16 years of experience in retail customer service. He has worked for the WDN for five years.

Ed Martin - Publisher

About Ed Martin:

Ed Martin, a West Virginia native, has been named publisher of the Williamson Daily News.

 The announcement was made by Bud Hunt, regional director of Civitas Media’s Mountain region, the newspaper’s parent company.

Martin also will serve as assistant regional director – West Virginia, with oversight of Civitas newspapers in Logan, Pineville, Gilbert and Madison. He will be based at the Williamson Daily News office, but also will spend time at the Logan Banner office each week.

 “I’m a proud West Virginian and I’m thrilled to be back in my home state,” Martin said. “I look forward to this opportunity.”

 Martin is a 25-year veteran of the newspaper business and hails from Newell, W.Va., an area in the northern panhandle. He graduated from Oak Glen High School in New Cumberland, W.Va.

 Martin most recently worked for the Tribune Review Newspapers as assistant general manager in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area.

 He also was the former publisher at the Floyd County Times in Prestonsburg, Kentucky in the late 1990s.

  “I truly believe in community newspapers,” Martin said. “Local newspapers are important and are here to enhance the community.”

 Martin has been a member of the Pennsylvania Press Association, Newspaper Association of America and Interstate Circulation Managers Association.

 He has been active in various civic organizations and was a former youth football, basketball, baseball and soccer coach. Martin was named one of the Most 100 Influential in Washington County (Pa.).

 He is married to Tina Martin and they have six children and six grandchildren, with one on the way.


Kyle Lovern - Editor

About Kyle Lovern:

Award winning journalist, photographer and author, Kyle Lovern, has returned to the Williamson Daily News. Lovern returned to the position of sports editor on March 5, 2011. He then became Editor of the Williamson Daily News in February of 2015. He also oversees the Gilbert Times and assists with the Independent-Herald at Pineville, W.Va. A long time newspaper writer, Lovern has worked in nearly every aspect of the newspaper business. As well as a sports writer, he has also worked as a news journalist, columnist, web-site manager, feature writer, photographer and even in advertising and sales. He was also the editor of the Logan Standard.

Lovern is a published author and has written four books which were published by Woodland Press.

Lovern has an Associate Degree from Southern W.Va. Community College and a BA in Communications from Bluefield State. He graduated from Williamson High School in 1974 and is a member of the WHS Athletic Hall of Fame.

Lovern, a life-time resident of the Tug Valley area, was born and raised in Nolan, W. Va. He and his wife, Vicki, live in Williamson and have three children - Tina, Erin and Matt, four grandchildren - Gracie, Gabbie, Reese and Ella, and an adopted beagle named Petey.

“This is my dream job and there is nowhere else I would rather be than in working in the Tug Valley area,” Lovern said.

Cindy Moore - Advertising Representative

About Cindy Moore:

Cindy Moore is a proud native of Mingo County, W.Va. who currently resides near the Lenore area. She is a 1995 graduate of Tug Valley High School in Naugatuck, West Virginia. Cindy began working as a news reporter for the Gilbert Times in 2013 and has since transferred to the Logan Banner and sales advertising for the Logan, Gilbert and Williamson publications.

Cindy is a mother of two daughters, one who attends college at Marshall University to study for a career in Forensic Psychology and the other is a student at Lenore Pre K-8. When Cindy isn't spending time writing she takes advantage of every second with her daughters and ridge riding in the beautiful hills of W.Va. with her friends and family.

William Plaster - Sports Reporter

About William Plaster:

William (Billy) Plaster is a Mingo County native who now resides in Lenore, W.Va. William Graduated from Matewan High School in 2005 and is a veteran of the United States Navy, Submarine Division.  He also attended Phelps High School in Pike County, Ky. William played football and baseball in high school.

William began working for the Williamson Daily News as the full-time sports reporter in the spring of 2015. William is an avid sports fan and he enjoys following local teams from smaller venures up to professional teams.

Courtney Pigman - News Reporter

About Courtney Pigman:

Courtney (Harrison) Pigman is a Mingo County native currently residing in the Williamson area. She graduated from Burch High School in 2002. Following her passion for writing and storytelling, she obtained a BA from Marshall University's W. Page Pitt School of Journalism and Mass Communications in 2008. Recently, she was hired as news reporter for the Williamson Daily News.

Courtney places high value on family and community life and is proud to say she is a West Virginian. She is an outdoor enthusiast that enjoys spending her spare time with her son Elijah, exploring the states’ vast recreational opportunities.

Kim Chapman - Office Manager

About Kim Chapman:

Kimberly Austin Chapman is the CSR Office Manager and has been employed for seven years with the Williamson Daily News.

She resides in Williamson and is the proud mother of a son, Raylee. She is engaged to Kevin McMullen.

Kim is a graduate of Williamson High School with the class of 1990. Kim loves working with people and waiting on her many customers.

Bernadine Perry - Regional Circulation Manager

About Bernadine Perry:

Bernadine Perry is the Regional Circulation Manager for the southern W.Va. newspapers of Civitas Media.

She is a graduate of Matewan High School.

Bernie resides in Williamson with her husband Eddie and son Logan. She also has a daughter Madison.

She has been with the WDN for 10 years.

Breanna New - Sales Representative

About Breanna New:

Breanna New is a Sales Consultant with Civitas Media. She handles advertising accounts for the Williamson Daily News and Gilbert Times.

Breanna resides in the Gilbert area. She graduated from Gilbert High School in 2003. She has been with Civitas Media for more than a year and she loves her job.

She is the mother of three children.

Amanda Lester - Sales Representative

About Amanda Lester:

Amanda Lester is a Sales Representative for the Williamson Daily News and Independent Herald at Pineville. She is a 1997 graduate of Tug Valley High School.

She resides in Gilbert and is the proud mother of three children. Amanda has been with Civitas Media for more than a year.
