HATFIELD, KY The Pike County Sheriff's Department took hundreds of illegal prescription drugs and several weapons off the street with a major drug bust Thursday,

Chief Field Deputy Melvin Sayers says the department had been conducting an investigation for several months.

The Sheriff's Department Drug Task Force had been receiving complaints from members of the community for some time, Sayers said. We also received some information from a suspect, as well as from undercover informants.

Anjolique Wilder, 25, Steve Pete Hackney, 47, Madonna Sue Hackney, 24, and Joey Shane Hackney, 39, were arrested on various felony drug trafficking charges.

The busts were carried out by two different teams of officers, Sayers said, at Lick Branch in Hatfield. One team executed warrants at Steve Hackney's residence while the other team was at Wilder's.

Those arrested had been under surveillance for several months. Several thousand dollars in cash, hundreds of prescription pills, firearms and knives were recovered.

Police have reason to believe the drugs were obtained in Florida and brought back to Kentucky for sale.

While the task force was executing the warrants at the Hackney residence, people were calling Hackney's phone, asking to buy drugs, Sayers added. The callers asked for drugs, and told officers they had previously purchased drugs from Hackney, he said.

Sheriff Charles Fuzzy Keesee called the operation a significant bust.

Several PCSD officers were involved in the arrests. Along with Sayers was Chief Field Deputy Burt Hatfield, Richard Ray, James Williams, Billy McCoy, James Worley, Jimmy Stepp, Shawn Scott and Gary Blackburn also participated in the investigation.
