The Lady Bulldogs took a 16-11 lead at the end of the first quarter and built it to a 31-22 lead by halftime. Burch outscored Williamson 11-3 in the third quarter to gain a 42-25 lead heading into the final stretch and then topped the Lady Wolves 22-7 in the final stanza for the 32-point victory.
Burch scored 21 field goals and made 22-of-28 from the foul line.
“We’ve actually played pretty well,” Burch Coach Melvin Cunningham said. “Defensively, we played a lot better. Our goal is to be the best team come February 22 and that’s what we’re working toward. Kim Smith was spectacular offensively and defensively. She just keeps getting better each week. Everyone else played well, too. We were more physical inside with Kayla Cisco and Cheyenne Moore both playing well. Kayla especially did a great job inside for us. Miranda Evans did a good job off the bench.”
Williamson was led by Devan Maynard with 13 points, while Jessica Fields scored six, Olivia Banks netted four, Jessica Sanger scored three and Taylor Elkins, Aislinn Dempsey and Mackenzie Stapleton each scored two.
Williamson turned the ball over 36 times in the game.
It was a different game than the first time the two teams met this season. Williamson took Burch down to the wire on the Lady Bulldogs’ home court and lost by just six, 47-41.
“I am really disappointed in this type of performance on our home floor,” Williamson Coach Robin Porter said. “Burch took it to us. They did what they wanted to do to us because we refuse to believe we can play with them. When Burch got the lead, they gained confidence and they took it to us. Talentwise, we’re as good as anyone in the county. But, the difference is that they’re not mentally ready to play the game. My team needs to decide if they want to be satisfied with this performance or if they want to play the way they can.”
The Lady Wolves made only six field goals, including a 3-pointer. From the free-throw line, they made 19-of-30 charity tosses.
Burch improves to 8-9 and is scheduled to play the lidlifter of a girls/boys double header at Van. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. in Boone County.
The Lady Wolves fall to 6-11 and are scheduled to play at Van on Friday and then will return home to host Buffalo on Saturday.
