Mary Alice Evans, 88, of Lenore, went home to be with the Lord on Nov. 29, 2009, at the Appalachian Regional Healthcare Facility in South Williamson, Ky.

Born Oct. 3, 1921, at Baisdentown, she was the daughter of the late Dock Gillman and Betty Joe Baisden Gillman.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Oscar Evans; and a dear son, Ersel "Bud" Evans; and three brothers, Ersel, Armel and Carmel Baisden.

Mary loved and greatly enjoyed the art of homemaking. She was a gifted crochet artist, having made each child a beautiful heirloom afghan to cherish and pass down to future generations. She liked to can vegetables and she liked to sew. Mary enjoyed anything that involved homemaking and caring for her family. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed always.

Mary was a member of the Baisdentown Church of God.

Mary is survived by one daughter, Jeanne Chafin of Lenore; a son, Mike (Tracey) Evans of Lenore; six grandchildren, Mark Chafin, Kimberly Stacy, Robert "Jerry" Taylor, Eloy "Dock" Evans, Pamela Evans, Ersel Edwin Evans and 11 great grandchildren.

The family received friends on Monday evening, November 30, 2009, at Weaver Mortuary in West Williamson. The Rev. Terry Blankenship conducted a special service at 7 p.m.

Funeral services were held Dec. 1, 2009, at 11 a.m., at the mortuary. The Rev. Clyde Miller officiated. Burial followed at the Mountain View Memory Gardens, Maher. Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.
