While recently researching an article I was forced to visit the Web-site Topix, after reading a few forums and polls I found myself disgusted and appalled.
I would like to thank those who developed the idea for this Website, which allows everyone to criticize anyone who breathes air.
This site prides itself on being, “Your News, Your Town, Your Take,” but it is more comparable to someone’s malformed version of the truth.
I totally believe that everyone should have a voice, but let’s face it everyone in this life is trying to do their best. No one is perfect, and everyone is a work in progress. Unfortunately, Topix has provided the perfect vessel for opportunistic souls to degrade people and over exaggerate situations.
These “editors” hide behind computer screen names, such as, Wasting Potential, Smokey and WV-Buddrinker, making wretched and distasteful comments. However, these judgmental characters may just want to take a closer look in the mirror and worry about their own imperfections, instead of ostracizing others. It is a sign in itself if your screen name of choice is Wasting Potential. Maybe, just maybe, they should get a life of their own instead of discussing others.
I do not believe that anyone should be criticized for waking up in the morning and living life.
Even our local Seven-Eleven employees are not spared when it comes to the harsh, harmful, inept and rude comments made on this site.
Local police officers are condemned for arresting drug dealers and investigating pain clinics. How dare they go out and do their job?!! What is this world coming to when policeman make an arrest or investigate a crime?
A person’s name is always a forum of interest, the ones that reprehend someone for just being themselves. The idea of telling someone’s background and opinion’s about their choices to anyone who can access the Internet is preposterous. There is a good chance if this person wanted their private history printed on the web, regarding their sexual orientation, bad habits or family issues, they would do it themselves. Also if they wanted someone’s random opinion about their life they would probably ask.
When I was a child I was taught a game called Telephone. The game would begin with one person whispering a phrase to another and it would be passed to another and so on, at the end of the game the message would be completely different. I think this mimics the forums and so-called “news” on Topix except most of these forums begin with a distorted message.
This site is completely unethical and childish. Reliable information is rarely printed on this site unless there is a link to another publication.
