BLACKLOG, Ky. - A motorcycle ride through the scenic back roads of Martin County, Ky., took a deadly turn for one rider who lost his life in an accident that occurred Sunday.
Kentucky State Police Trooper Shaun Little, the public affairs Officer for KSP Post 9 in Pikeville, Ky., said troopers received a report of a motorcycle crash on Blacklog Road in the Inez section of Martin County at approximately 4:30 p.m.
According to information obtained at the scene by KSP Trooper J. Neace, 60-year-old Donald Lee Ferrell of Switzer in Logan County, W.Va., was traveling west on Blacklog Road when an oncoming vehicle crossed into his lane of travel. A witness told the trooper that Ferrell swerved to miss the oncoming vehicle, lost control of the motorcycle and overturned in the roadway. NetCare Ambulance service and members of the Inez Volunteer Fire Department responded to the call and administered emergency care, but were unable to resuscitate the victim.
Ferrell was pronounced dead at the scene by Martin County Deputy Coroner Ronnie Mathis. So far, no charges have been filed against the driver of the other vehicle. The accident remains under investigation by Neace.
