INEZ, Ky. - Last week, the Phelps alumni football team kicked off with a playoff win with a 30-6 victory over Betsy Layne.
This week, Tug Valley takes on Sheldon Clark in what is sure to be a great matchup at Inez, Ky.
Gridiron Alumni announced at the beginning of the year that they are putting on the King of the Coal Fields alumni football tournament.
Last Saturday’s game will conclude the first round and the winner of the game will play Belfry alumni on May 17th.
This week’s game is to be held at Sheldon Clark High School rain or shine. The gates open at 6 p.m. and kickoff is at 7 p.m. The forecast calls for a 77 degrees and a slight chance of storm; perfect football weather.
Even Sheldon Clark’s Coach is getting in on the action. Coach Shawn Hager will participate in this weekend’s game and that alone should be worth the price of admission.
Several former players from past Panther and Cardinals squads are supposed to be suiting up for the game.
The winner of this game will play Belfry. Williamson was slated to play Belfry on Friday night, but couldn’t get enough players for the game. Therefore, Belfry will move on to Round two of the alumni event.
A percentage of the proceeds and all of the concession stands go to each host school. Last year, Gridiron Alumni raised over $50,000 for schools and charities and has raised over $250,000 for schools and charities since 2010.
