GOODY, Ky. – Chapmanville remained undefeated outscoring Belfry 5-1 in baseball action on Monday at the BHS baseball field.
The Tigers, now 9-0 on the season, took a 2-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning.
Leadoff batter Tristan Thompson reached 1st base after getting hit by a pitch. He then went to 2nd base on a throwing error on an attempted pickoff play by Pirate pitcher Keaton Taylor.
Then William Copley stroked an RBI single to right center field to score Thompson. Copley later scored on a wild pitch and the Tigers led 2-0.
There was no more scoring until the bottom of the Belfry 4th inning. Reed Williamson led off with a single to right and scored on an RBI grounder to shortstop by Zac Fields.
Chapmanville got some insurance runs in the top of the 6th inning.
Taylor walked Brent Bigley, Jacob Dingess came in as a pinch runner to get things started for the Tigers in the 6th. Pinch runners Alex Berry and Trey Dalton were on with Dingess to load the bases.
Belfry brought in Z. Fields to pitch in relief. Chapmanville’s Jordan Cook smacked a 2-run double to left field to give the visitors a 4-1 lead. Then Brady Cox lined an RBI single to center to make it 5-1.
Joey Duty and Reed Williamson had Belfry’s only hits, a single in the 1st inning and a base hit in the 4th frame.
Nick Brumfield got the win on the mound for the Tigers, pitching five innings and only giving up two hits. He struck out four Belfry batters and only gave up one earned run. Austin Ellis pitched the final two innings for Chapmanville.
K. Taylor took the tough loss for the Pirates. He is now 3-2 on the mound for this season.
