CHARLESTON - West Virginia Speaker of the House Tim Miley recently appointed Delegate Justin Marcum and House Majority Leader Harry Keith White to the newly formed Committee on Energy.
The Committee on Energy is composed primarily of delegates from energy-producing counties. However, the Committee also has some members from other counties. These committee members will have the first look at any piece of legislation that deals with coal and other forms of energy.
White believes the duo’s appointment to the House Committee on Energy will serve the citizens of the southern coalfields well.
“By working on this important committee, Delegate Marcum and I can protect the interests of the coal industry and coal miners,” White said. “Coal is vital to our local economy and I will use my time on this committee to make sure to protect our most important resource.”
Marcum recalled his days as a coal miner when discussing his appointment to the committee.
“As a former coal miner, and now an attorney, I understand the issues facing our coal miners,” Marcum said. “I will utilize my time on the House Committee on Energy to fight for our miners and their jobs.”
“It is also a pleasure to serve with Majority Leader White on this committee, which is so important to our local area,” Marcum added.
White represents the 21st District the state House of Delegates and Marcum represents the 20th District.
