RED JACKET – The Mingo Central lost their first game of the season as Chapmanville beat the Lady Miners 51-38 on Wednesday night at the MCHS gym up on the mountain.

The Lady Tigers jumped out to an 18-8 first quarter lead and led 31-17 at the half.

Hillary Hainer and Abigal Marcum each chipped in 8 points for the Lady Tigers.

Kiearia Hammond led Mingo Central with 8 points, while Ashley Curry scored 7 and Tyshira Joplin 6 for coach Clay Campbell’s squad.

The Lady Miners fought back in the third quarter to cut the lead outscoring CRHs 14-6, but the Tigers bounced back in the final period to outscore MCHS 14-7 to pull away.

“We got behind early in the first half. We missed some shots and that hurt us,” Campbell said. “We got close in the second half, but we had to foul to buy some time.”

“We had too many turnovers and missed a lot of foul shots,” he added.

Mingo Central (3-1) was to have played highly ranked Scott on Thursday night. They play at Belfry on Saturday night in the Lady Pirate Invitational.

Chapmanville, now 3-1, plays host to Tolsia on Saturday night.
