SOUTH CHARLESTON – Troop 5 of the West Virginia State Police will be participating in a Winter Boot and Coat Drive through December 2, 2013. The Troop 5 Commander, Captain Dave Nelson, and his command staff recognized a need for boots and coats for children living within Troop 5’s area of responsibility.

Working with School Administrators, they are attempting to identify children in need of boots and coats this winter season. Donations of new or slightly used boots and coats in good condition will be accepted at the following detachments during normal working hours, on weekdays: Gilbert, Hamlin, Huntington, Logan, Madison, Wayne, and Williamson. Children and adult sizes will be accepted.

“I applaud Captain Nelson and his staff for identifying a need within their Troop and addressing it. When our Troopers realize that they have a vested interest in their community and genuinely strive to serve others, they become better police officers and build a relationship of trust with the public in the process.” – Colonel C. R. “Jay” Smithers

Any questions or requests for interviews should be directed to either First Sergeant Michael Baylous at 304-746-2198 or Captain Dave Nelson at 304-792-7174.
