Two Mingo Central Miner football players were in the top of statistical categories heading into this past Friday night’s game with Poca.

Senior wide receiver Alex “Booger” Lee was second in receiving. Lee had 21 receptions for 313 yards and three touchdowns. He was averaging almost 15 yards per catch going into Friday’s game with the Dots.

Sophomore quarterback Stevie Hammond was fourth in passing with 38-65 for 465 yards, four TDs and one interception.

Mingo Central was 1-1 in the Cardinal Conference and 3-2 overall before their win against Poca.

They are now 2-1 in the conference or 4-2 for the season heading into this week’s contest with Chapmanville. The Tigers are in third place in the conference, while Mingo Central was tied for 4th place.

Chapmanville is 3-1 in the conference and 4-3 overall. They were beaten by county rival Man this past weekend.

Mingo Central rolled over Poca last Friday night 68-14 for a big conference road win.

This week’s game is very important to both teams. Not only for the conference standings, but for the post season.

After both teams played on Friday, it will make for an interesting game this week.

(Editor’s Note: The stats for Hammond and Lee do not include the Poca game.)
