Johnson Central (Ky.) High School senior Shane Hall verbally committed to the Marshall University men’s basketball program Wednesday during an unofficial campus visit.
Marshall assistant coach Mark Cline was the lead recruiter.
Hall is a 6-foot-9, 210-pound all-state power forward who averaged about 17 points and nine rebounds last season when the Golden Eagles made their second consecutive appearance in the Kentucky Sweet 16 state tournament.
… West Virginia University will tip off the 2013-14 men’s basketball season with the Gold-Blue Debut presented by Coke Zero on Friday, Oct. 18, at 7:30 p.m., at the WVU Coliseum. Admission to the event is free with gates opening at 6:30 p.m.
A 40-minute officiated game between the Gold and Blue teams highlight just a few of the events that will occur. Other festivities include the introduction of the men’s players and staff, a speech from Bob Huggins and an autograph session with the team following the event on the Coliseum floor.
Additional events include highlight videos and performances from the Mountaineer pep band, cheerleaders and dance team.

The Mountaineers begin practice for the 2013-14 season on Monday, Sept. 30.
… Cam Henderson Center will host a night of basketball on Thursday, Oct. 17 with the Marshall men’s and women’s team participating in a green & white scrimmage.
It will be the first opportunity for fans to pick up their season tickets and ask about tickets if they haven’t already purchased them. The doors will open at 4:30 p.m. and admission is free for those who pick up their season tickets at that time. All season tickets not picked up at that time will be mailed out.
The night will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the women doing drills and skill work before participating in an intrasquad scrimmage. The men will take the court at 7 p.m. and go through a similar routine before a scrimmage. Certified officials will be used for the scrimmage.
… At least six Conference USA men’s basketball games involving Marshall will be televised this season including the Herd’s senior day meeting with Charlotte on March 6.
Additional selections for league games will possibly be made by the CBS Sports Network carriage affiliates and FOX.
… Marshall University will be playing the majority of its non-conference baseball home games on an improved Huntington YMCA Kennedy Center field.
The Kennedy Center field on W.Va. 2 along the Ohio River is undergoing significant renovations, Marshall athletics and the YMCA announced Thursday. Marshall has a five-year lease with the YMCA at $28,000 per year to use the field for practices and games, athletic director Mike Hamrick said.
