PRINCETON, W.Va. (AP) — A family court judge from Mercer County will handle the divorce of suspended Mingo County Circuit Judge Michael Thornsbury.

The Bluefield Daily Telegraph says the state Supreme Court approved the voluntary recusal of Judge Miki Thompson last week and appointed Judge Mary Ellen Griffith.

Thornsbury’s wife, Drema, filed for divorce earlier this month, after he was charged with conspiracy. Federal prosecutors say he tried to frame the husband of a former mistress for crimes he didn’t commit.

He’s expected to plead guilty to a second conspiracy next week in exchange for dismissal of the first case.

Prosecutors allege that in the second case, the judge conspired with others to imprison a man who had sold drugs to Sheriff Eugene Crum.

Crum died in April in an unrelated shooting.
