Amid rumors she intends to run for the U.S. Senate next year, Secretary of State Natalie Tennant is making known her plans today at Tamarack.

Tennant has been the target of rumors in recent weeks, largely on the social network Facebook, that she will file for the Senate seat being vacated by the retiring Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va.

Rep. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., who represents the 2nd District, announced her plans last November to go after Rockefeller’s seat.

A campaign spokesman for Capito declined to comment, saying it would be premature until Tennant’s plans were formally disclosed.

Tennant is planning a second news conference Tuesday at the Capitol complex.

An aide to the Democratic senator would only say that Tennant is planning to announce her political plans to end weeks of speculation.
