GOODY, Ky. – A two vehicle accident in front of the Advanced Auto business and the entrance/exit for Wal-Mart in Goody, Ky. resulted in two females being transported to a local hospital for evaluation of injuries they sustained.
According to Pikeville Post 9 Kentucky State Trooper Hoyt Smith, a Thursday afternoon accident was caused by one driver failing to stop, which ended when he rear-ended the car in front of him.
Leroy Prater, of Stopover, was preparing to exit the southbound lane of U.S. 119 and turn in to the Wal-Mart entrance when he collided with the rear of a vehicle being operated by Larry D. Huffman, of Gilbert, who was also in the turning lane. Prater told the trooper that he did not realize Huffman was turning.
Minimal damage occurred to both vehicles, but they were still able to drive the vehicles. They were removed from the scene by the drivers. Diane Huffman, the wife of Larry, and their daughter Angel who were passengers in the car were both transported by Appalachian First Response Ambulance Service to the emergency room of the Appalachian Regional Hospital. Diane suffered an injury to her elbow and Angel complained of back and neck pain.
Members of the Belfry Volunteer Fire Department responded to the call and performed traffic control, as well as patient care and scene cleanup.
