The Belfry High School football team will be holding its Kickoff Bash on Friday, August 9th, starting at 6:30 p.m. There will be silent auctions and raffles, including Belfry helmets, game jerseys, grills, Belfry gift baskets, Cincinnati Reds gift baskets, gift cards and more. Pirate players will be available for pictures and autographs. There will be inflatables, corn-hole and face painting for the kids. Barbecue dinner tickets are $8. Reverse raffle tickets are $10. Contact any football parent for tickets or for info call the school at 237-3900.


…. Belfry Middle School will hold its red/white game and Meet the Pirates night on Friday, August 2nd, at 7 p.m. BMS is the defending state middle school champs.


… All Belfry area little flag football league players - 6th grades, will have registration on Monday, August 12 at the Belfry Middle School Complex from 5:30 to 8 p.m.


…. Anyone interested in cheering for Mingo Central High School should be at practice on Monday, August 5th at 10 a.m. in the school’s gymnasium. You must have a physical to participate as well as a 2.00 grade point average from the spring semester. Tryouts will be on Tuesday morning, beginning at 10 a.m.


… Mingo Central’s football coaching staff is having a mandatory meeting for all football players at 5 p.m on Friday, August 2nd. It is important for players to report for this meeting. Practice starts on Monday, August 5th.


… Kentucky basketball fans will get a glimpse of the Wildcats’ past and present in one October weekend. The Bluegrass Sports Commission on Wednesday announced that the NBA’s New Orleans Pelicans and Washington Wizards will play a preseason game at Rupp Arena on Oct. 19. Former Wildcats Anthony Davis and Darius Miller, who helped Kentucky win the 2012 NCAA championship, will play for the Pelicans. The Wizards feature Kentucky product John Wall.


The game comes a day after Big Blue Madness


… WVU has got another commitment for 2014. Offensive lineman Jamie Herr, a 6’5” 275-pound prospect from Eastern Christian Academy (Elkton, Md.), is the latest pledge. He turned down offers from Boston College State, N.C. State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Syracuse and Tennessee in favor of WVU. Rivals.com ranks Herr as a three-star prospect and one of the top five offensive tackles in the state of Maryland, but he should have the size and athleticism to play either tackle or guard at the next level.


… Kaleb Joseph, a highly rated point guard, has narrowed his school choices down to three. WVU is among those schools, which includes Syracuse and Providence. He is ranked No. 51 overall in the class of 2014 by ESPN.
