GOODY, Ky. – The Belfry Pirate football team will be putting some miles on the buses this year as they head to Knoxville, Tennessee and to Pulaski County in south central Kentucky.
Coach Philip Haywood released the schedule on Friday after finalizing contracts with the last couple of schools on the slate.
Belfry will open the season as usual in the Pike County Bowl at home hosting Somerset, Ky.
Then they hit the road to take on Harlan County and Southwest Pulaski in consecutive weekends.
They return home to take on county rival Pikeville on September 20 and hit the road the 27 heading up to Martin County, Ky. to take on Sheldon Clark.
They will host Galia Academy, Ohio on October 4, then the next Friday, October 11, they make the trek to Tennessee to take on Knoxville Christian.
The Pirates return home on October 18 to play Lawrence County at CAM Stadium. They travel over U.S. 119 to take on district rival Pike Central on October 25. The end the regular season playing host to Johnson Central on November 1.
Haywood said the schedule is challenging for the Pirates.
Belfry is coming off another fine season and a Class AAA state runner-up finish. Belfry has made it to the state championship game the past three seasons. Belfry lost 12-6 to Central High School of Louisville last November and 15-14 in 2011. The Pirates also lost to Central in the final in 2010.
