Like he has many times in the past, Mingo County State Senator H. Truman Chafin has helped get a grant for the City of Williamson to make repairs to the municipal pool in West End.

Chafin presented Williamson Park Board member Curt Phillips with a certificate for a $16,000 Community Partnership Grant on Monday.

Chafin gave Phillips a letter from Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin stating that he approved the $16,000 that will enable the Park Board to make much-needed repairs to the pool.

The project will include repairs to the pool building, ceiling, paint, valves, filters and other repairs as funds permit.

The pool will open in June. It was built after the 1977 flood destroyed the old West End swimming pool.

The upstairs room above the bathhouse can be rented for parties. Phillips said that new tables and chairs were purchased for that room, which include a kitchen area.

The grant money will help with more repairs and renovations.
